"Small But Mighty" (seeking Publishing)

Foreword

Children and youth around Australia are creating positive change and amazing things that can inspire and ignite similar in yet more youth.

This collection of stories and interviews is shining a spotlight on our amazing young people and celebrating their achievements, big and small, city and rural, sporting and arts, caring and solo, indigenous and non-indigenous, LGBTQI, girl, boy or non-binary.

Education focuses heavily on preparing our young people to emerge as successful adults and in Australia we have a great system that is achieving this. However this book recognises that we also need to celebrate the phenomenal and insightful achievements of young people as young people.

Let’s celebrate our young people for the achievements they are making happen right now. You don’t have to wait to be an adult to be mighty, you can be Small But Mighty too.

“Small But Mighty” is a phrase that comes from an un-named mother or care-giver of 3 young children under 7 in USA. In a chance encounter with author Jarrod Paine on the top of the water slide at Disney’s water park, she remarked to Jarrod as she had one of each of her three kids going down each of the 3 slides that “it’ll be okay, they’re small but mighty”.

The phrase stuck with Jarrod for the following 4 week cross country journey across America and at each challenge his young children aged 6 and 8 faced, he reminded them that they too are small but mighty, culminating in one of the stories you’ll read in this blog, “Angel’s Landing”.

The phrase empowers young people to achieve. It emboldens them to tackle challenges that seem too big and it brings fantastic confidence and self-efficacy growth…if we as adults let them.

Read this book with your Small But Mighty young people and go on an inspiring journey of inspiration from other young people across this great nation.
